Star Bowl

Found something interesting in my online foraging.

The Star Bowl

A particularly unusual and beautiful form, firstly turned on the lathe and then the rim carved with an axe and knife.

The picture comes from a pack of cards made in Southern Germany in 1460 and shows a very similar bowl in use in the kitchen.

Original star bowl
I've been making these for 10 years and they are my top selling wedding or birthday gift. They are based on a drawing of a bowl found in Braunschweig, Germany dated mid-15th century. approx 8" x 2½" £29

Lubeck star bowl
This is my new design with an upflowing rim based on some wonderful Medieval bowls I studied recently in Lubeck, northern Germany. approx 7" x 2½" £27
